MALAÏKA GAUDETTE – TWO GOLD MÉDALS AT THE DÉFI SPORTIF !
Malaïka, of Gatineau is a dedicated athlete. For many years, she has been participating in some 5 weekly sport activities at Ontario Special Olympics.
Each year, in the spring, she competes at the international events of DÉFI SPORTIF ALTER EGO. Created in 1984, the Défi Sportif is a unique multi-sport event for athletes having physical, psychical, intellectual, visual and auditory deficiencies. This event also serves as a means of creating awareness among the population at large. In 2014, 4600 athletes from 15 countries were registered in competitions covering 14 different sports that took place in Montreal, Longueuil and Boucherville from April 8 to May 4.
This year, Malaïka has decided to compete in swimming. To prepare herself for this event, she had practice sessions every Sunday starting last September at Ottawa U, under the careful supervision of her Ontario Special Olympics coach, Myriam Gay.
These efforts were well rewarded: Malaîka got first place in two swimming meets on May 3rd 2014!
Congratulations, MalaÏka, We are proud of your accomplishment!
