 2.       Athlete Registration Rules: First Come First Serve Details

Special Olympics has committed to ensuring that all athletes have a fair, and equal chance to participate in all sport programs.  The Greater Ottawa Area has managed this commitment through a First Come First Serve policy.  In an attempt to ensure all athletes, have a fair and equitable opportunity to participate in their favoured programs, we will be incorporating the following rules:

A.      Registration of Athletes: Registration can be completed by an athlete, parent, guardian, or caregiver. Athletes may also be accompanied and/or have their registration dropped off by a proxy.  Proxies are limited to one address. I.e. a Group Home representative can be the proxy for many athletes at the same address.

B.      Registration of Athletes outside of Rule A: Additional registrations brought in person (for example, a coach bringing registration forms for other athletes) will be logged and considered chronologically after the close of Registration Day.

C.      Mail-In Registration: Mailed in registrations will be considered after in-person registration is complete, and in chronological order (based on order of postage) with the drop-off registrations (Rule B). I.e. a registration mailed on June 12th will be considered prior to Rule B registrations, but after Rule A registrations.

As you can see, we the council are taking registration very seriously, and want to ensure equal and fair opportunity to all athletes.  Should you have any questions, or suggestions for improvement, please contact me directly (Liana Murray – Programs Chair, programs.chair@specialolympicsottawa.ca).
